Tugendhat’s Turn Towards Irrelevance

Tereza Matějčková

The study focuses on Tugendhat’s critical reception of Heidegger’s concept of death, as formulated by Tugendhat after his turn to philosophical anthropology and mysticism. Fundamental to Tugendhat’s mysticism is the role of the Other: in view of the Other, man shall relinquish his tendency to place himself at the centre of the universe. Once one lets go of one’s centrality, one abandons the fear of death. However, it is to be asked if the significance of the Other – so central to Tugendhat’s current thought – can be upheld once the self relinquishes its own centrality.
