Language of Creation

Miroslav Šedina

Origin of the Septuagint provides Philo of Alexandria with rich material for allegorical treatise of the natural source of language. In his opinion Greek translators of the Jewish Law did not only lean upon its Hebrew original, but looked for an inspiration in elementar structure of the created world. Like the first inhabitant of the kosmos Adam is brought to life with breath of divine pneuma, the new cosmopolitic language narrating the biblical myth of creation is animated with „breath“ of the Greek vowels, that provide the biblical text with an universal syntactic dimension.
